Let’s Get Active has launched!

Artist Lata Upadayaha on her Indian Rickshaw

The Let’s Get Active project has launched at High House Production Park in Purfleet.

This Essex wide project support BAME communities to get moving during and after the Covid-19 pandemic. Over the next few months we will be supporting diverse artists, arts and culture organisations and community groups to encourage people to participate in physical activities through a number of creative and innovative ways.

Planned activities so far include cycling on an Indian Rickshaw by artist Lata Upadayaha in Purfleet; Ribbon dancing with the Chinese Colchester Culture Society in Tendering; capoeira and samba classes delivered by BrazilArte in Southend.

This programme of events has been supported by Active Essex, which has received Tackling Inequalities funding from Sport England and will work with ECDP to help deliver onward grants to BAME community organisations.

ECDP Creative Director said “we have forged an excellent partnership with Active Essex to support BAME communities in Essex, Southend and Thurrock who have been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Through our Let’s Get Active physical activity programme we ensure that funding and resources are available to BAME organisations to deliver these session and engage with their communities”
