Grays + Me: An Alternative Mapping Project
Grays + Me
An Alternative Mapping Project
Thameside Complex, Grays
From January to March 2019, Arooj Khan ran a series of events in Grays as part of her ECDP NPO Commission, exploring people, place and regeneration. The project encouraged residents to re-map where they live, in their own personal way.
Here’s an overview of the events:
Re-making Grays!
31 January 12.00 – 2.00pm
Grab a pen, and help deface a map of Grays! Scribble out the things you don’t like, draw on the things you would like.
Sound-mapping Grays!
9 February 12.00 – 1.00pm
If there was one sound that sums up Grays, what would it be? Come along and record your sound and add it to our soundscape. Event on Facebook
Share a Story!
9 March 10.30 – 1.00pm
Share your Grays-related stories with other residents over a cup of tea and slice of Essex spice cake. Part of Essex Book Festivl’s ‘Oh, The Places We’ll Go!’ with storytelling from not only Grays, but also from around the world. Event on Facebook
Grays + Me: The Exhibition
29 March 6.00 – 8.00pm
Come along to hear the findings from workshops, and to view and interact with our new and collaborative maps of Grays. Event on Facebook
