Global Village at Orchard

Global Village in Rochford brought people together to celebrate cultures from all corners of the world, as part of ORCHARD, a cultural programme inspired by the heritage and environment of the Rochford District.

The WI Hall was packed with people who enjoyed storytelling with Usifu Jalloh, Bollywood dancing with Sarika Golcha from ABCD Bollywood, and a Sitar and Tabla Performance by Sitar Maestro Jonathan Mayer and Tabla player Gurdain Rayatt. There was also Chinese Calligraphy with Simone Xue of Colchester Chinese Culture Society, and  Henna Art with Henna Artist Jitty Bajaj.

About Orchard

This event was organised by Essex Cultural Diversity Project as part of ORCHARD, a new cultural programme that is inspired by the heritage, environment and culture of the Rochford District. Developed by Rochford-based Cultural Engine CIC with local partners, Orchard will become an annual programme that offers opportunities for creative and heritage practitioners, local charities and community groups, town and parish councils, business and residents to explore, celebrate and learn together – focused on the uniqueness of the Rochford District. Activities have been taking place across Rochford, Rayleigh, Ashingdon and Hockley between October and December 2023.
