Celebrating women in sport on Chelmsford’s Market Square!


Join Street Artist 7th Pencil to make your own wearable art. You are invited to come along to drop-in workshops, inspired by the new mural on Market Square.


A new mural by 7th Pencil

As part of Concrete Canvas, the street art festival taking place across the city this month, street artist 7th Pencil is creating a new large-scale mural in Market Square. The piece is a bold and vibrant celebration of women in Sport, capturing the energy, diversity and achievement of women athletes from across Essex. Commissioned by Chelmsford For You, Chelmsford City Council and Essex Cricket.

Inspired by her new large-scale mural celebrating women in sport, street artist 7th Pencil will be leading drop-in workshops for young people to make their own wearable art. You are invited to come along, be empowered and make your mark!

Workshops will take place in Market Square. Drop-in anytime between 12 and 3.45pm.

Chelmsford welcomes Paralympian Anne Wafula Strike MBE to Market Square this May. Paralympian, public speaker, inclusion campaigner and author, Anne is one of the amazing athletes featured in the new mural whose life is a story about resilience and courage, and the power of sport to cross every kind of boundary.

Anne will be on market square in conversation with Claire Gevaux, CEO of Culture Chelmsford. Free event, no booking required.

This event is part of Essex Cultural Diversity Project’s Stand Up For Diversity programme, a series of events that brings together those who champion diversity in the arts and in our communities.


A series of events which celebrate Women in Sport in Chelmsford, in the run up to the Women’s International T20 Cricket: England vs India.
