Global Rhythm
We’re proud to be supporting this year’s Global Rhythm, Ipswich’s free festival of world and roots music, which returns to Christchurch Park Ipswich on Saturday 13 July. Three stages and a programme of free workshops will feature fantastic music and dance from many nations and cultures including the Caribbean, Asia, Africa and Eastern Europe.
The Peppery Stage showcases joyous Central African sounds from Kanda Bongo Man; Maroon Town’s explosion of ska, rap, dub and dancehall; Country maestro Hank Wangford and his Lost Cowboys; East European and Balkan Romani music with Balamuc! as well as Aartwork’s Psychedelic Celtic Fusion.
Missile Sound will present their famous celebration of Caribbean Sound System Culture, featuring the best local DJs and dancers including DJ Skippa J and DJ Daddy Turbo, Rosy May, the popular Miss Tiney Winey contest and headlining international stars Tippa Irie and V Rocket.
The Community Stage features dancers and musicians from Suffolk’s rich mix of nationalities and cultures including Desi Girls, Flytoez, Babashe, Khushi Srivastava, Gloria Gonzales, DJ Susanita, compared with dance shows by MRD, Martell Richard’s Dance.
And there’s a free workshop programme, where you can learn new skills in dance and percussion from across the globe with Lydia Tse & ACCE Chinese Drums, SYL African Dance and Trevor Jones Steel Drums.
