500 Miles 500 People 500 Dreams 500 Silks
A collaborative 500-mile walk from Lowestoft to Tilbury

In Summer 2021 we were a partner in Kinetika’s  project Beach of Dreams, an epic journey to discover the hidden gems of the East Coast of England, which invited collaboration from communities and artists in Suffolk, Essex, Southend, and Thurrock.

Kinetika’s Artistic Director, Ali Pretty, and Guardian journalist Kevin Rushby walked the entire route, inviting artists, writers, scientists and local residents to join them in a collaborative journey. Together, guided by strong environmental themes and the challenges of our current time, they considered the question “How can we creatively reimagine our future?”

Essex Cultural Diversity Project supported the project as a whole, taking part in the mile walk in Jaywick on Sunday 11 July, and supporting two artist commissions by Nabil Ali and Fotis Begklis.

To enable the ambition that this impactful project is adopted further afield, Kinetika is partnering with Creative Lives to widen its reach across the UK and Ireland in 2024. Find out more at kinetika.co.uk/beach-of-dreams
